The birth of a child is the happiest day of many parents’ lives. You have never felt a connection so strong to a human as you do with your child. The advice below will help you to build your relationship, ensuring that the connection between you and your child not only remains strong, it flourishes!

If a toddler is becoming bored with his or her toys or isn’t playing with them as much, rotate them. Toddlers typically lose interest in a toy within a few days unless it is a beloved favorite. By rotating the toys that your toddler can play with, you add artificial novelty and variety to their playtime.

Bring things that are familiar and comforting with your toddler or young child when traveling. While most of the family views a vacation as a fun break, to a very young child it seems like a needless disruption of their normal day. Making your child happy with unfamiliar surroundings may require nothing more than bringing along a beloved blanket or favorite toy.

Having another child will force you to spend time with one child more than the other. Usually, the squeaky wheel will get the grease. If you are expecting this challenge and understanding that it is normal, you will avoid yourself a lot of guilt.

A great way to start is to open up a 529 Plan and contribute to it regularly. A 529 Plan is a state-owned savings accounts designed specifically for college savings. They also have positive tax consequences.

Choose your wars wisely. It is important to learn which things should be fought and which are not worthwhile. Children desperately need boundaries, but they also need a bit of freedom to find themselves.

If your children fight and have trouble getting along, try to develop a set of rules for your family that are set out in positive language. For instance, tell your child to touch gently if he or she tends to hit.

When becoming a stepparent, you have to accept that your stepchildren may not like you. The child may blame you for their parents’ separation. Try to be understanding and eventually the two of you can build a unique bond.

Avoid disrupting your small child’s eating and sleeping routines when you are traveling. Young ones and babies will feel the stress of travel more than you realize. However, if you follow their normal bedtime ritual no matter where you are, they are likely to have no problems sleeping.

A good relationship between you and your young child will make the teenage years easier and help them throughout their lives. These tips can help you get that relationship stronger.

Functional for short carries, November 7, 2012

We purchased these straps to help haul the car seat through the airport. (We were using the seat on the plane.) We did purchase TWO straps, so we could make the car seat into a full ‘backpack’.

They functioned well for short carries. We ended up using the stroller to transport the car seat through the majority of the airport. We didn’t really try to carry it around a lot with the straps. My husband thinks the straps were comfortable, even if he had to carry it longer. I know other reviewers said they broke. In our experience, the straps seemed like they should hold up for longer.

It is frustrating that you have to purchase this item twice if you would like to use the “backpack” carry feature. I would think just having one may stress the clasp and perhaps cause the clip to break. I highly recommend purchasing two straps.

Broke 1st time we used it, November 2, 2012

Cheaply made. We were carrying our Sunshine Kids Radian car seat through the airport with 2 of these straps, as a backpack. (We were using the car seat on the plane). The 1st time we used these straps, the metal clip piece of 1 strap broke before we even made it through security! It was a total nightmare trying to schlep the car seat with only 1 strap (it is VERY heavy). I complained to Diono, who sent us 2 new straps, plus their car seat carry bag. The bag looks pretty cheaply made, so we’ll see how it holds up on our next trip. The fundamental problem with these straps is that the metal appears to be molded (eg liquid poured into a mold), rather than a solid piece of metal. Not sure how better to explain that. Therefore, the molded metal isn’t designed to bear the heavy load of the car seat. At least that’s our theory. Hopefully Diono will change the design to improve their function. We had to borrow 2 mismatched luggage straps from family to carry the car seat home through the airport.

This strap was cheap and flimsy – the “padding” on the strap was nothing more than some fabric, nothing that would actually make wearing a 25lb Diono carseat remotely comfortable. The part that was supposed to swivel so the strap didn’t get tangled up was stuck so didn’t swivel either. Had to return it and get a real luggage strap from Tumi to do the job.
